This is quite a comprehensive subject, and from time to time I will be expounding on the principles below – so make sure to come back regularly or subscribe to our RSS feed.

There is a term called SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ). The process is aimed at making your site search engine friendly so that you have a chance of getting ranked. Your aim would be to show up on the first page of say, Google, if someone typed in a search for your keyword or phrase that you have optimized for.

SEO can be quite a technical task, and requires some skill as well as time. That being said, there is a lot that can be done by the average web owner to optimize their website. We will now look at the main facets and activities that can be performed.

As with all things, the beginning is not the beginning.

So let me begin before this site.

About five years ago I got hooked to online money making, specifically affiliate marketing. I tended to use traffic exchanges, safelists, forums, and classified advertising to build my teams.

This, even though it did reap some downline members, failed for the most part because it was a rarity to find a like minded promoter.

So my downlines would grow from my efforts alone, which is not the philosophy of the idea at all. It was not a total waste of time though, I did find and befriend to people, Victor Roestad and Connie Muller.

For a few years we teamed up on everything. Beginning with membership sites, which are fantastic at creating lists, Paid to Click sites (don’t totally ignore this marketing form), and pure list building (this is hard work and slow going but most likely the best long term strategy).

Victor and I owned an ezine, worked together on some membership sites and even now we have a close working relationship. He does a weekly post on affiliate marketing for me because his work ethic and overly helpful nature lends himself well to working affiliate sites extremely well.

Connie and I worked some dodgy things like gambling membership sites (the site was a focus point for several gambling sites which paid commissions on money gambled) and the most dreaded error of my online attempts, high yield income programs (HYIPs – avoid at all costs please).

We work together as well, but he now specialises in SEO. He does a weekly post about SEO because I am a novice with it and he knows a lot. Through all of this, there were big ups and downs and huge learning curves. But ultimately, as of writing this, we are still to make our millions online.

Although we are still working towards our goals in our own way. Through all of this, on a personal level, and something that has hindered my attempts to move forward, I had a divorce, shifted to two countries, got remarried and had my third child to my second wife.

Let me state right now, shifting around kills an online business when you are starting out.

So, as of today, I finally have a stable home and happy personal life. A true breeding ground for building a business.
